Meet Your New Year’s Resolutions with a Personalized 2012 Calendar

Each new year brings with it great promise of changes and achievements. But why is it that many people view the coming of a new year as a reminder of things they didn’t get to do? This is probably because many of us don’t accomplish half of what we set out to do each year. From smaller waistlines, to bigger bottom-lines, many of our new year’s resolutions get forgotten as soon as we get in to the swing of things in mid January. If you really want to achieve your resolutions this new year, or at any other time, here’s a tip-get a personalized calendar. It sounds a little too simple? Well, look at what these studies have to say.

A recent study by the Ford Foundation found that only 3% of people actually achieve their new year’s resolutions. Even these select few do not have a 100% success rate, but at 89% achievement, they are doing far better than everyone else. So what do these people do differently? They had clearly defined goals. A different study, this time of patients in a smoking cessation program, showed that smokers who received daily encouragement and reminders via text message and e-mail, were 50% more likely to succeed. So, a clearly defined goal and daily encouragement can be said to help people achieve a difficult goal. So what do calendars have to do with it?

In addition to being convenient, a personalized 2012 calendar also provides you with a clearly-defined goal as well as regular encouragement. When you create a goal-oriented plan for the new year, you are forced to quantify your goals. This means, you will say “I will weigh 128 pounds by October 30, 2011”, instead of “My goal this year is to lose weight.” When you create a personalized resolution tracker, it will be impossible to proceed with a very vague resolution. Otherwise, there will be no way for you to create your targets.

Another great thing about using a personalized goal-oriented calendar is that it will make your goals more realistic. Say you weigh 200 pounds, you might decide your target weight is 120 in eight months just because 120 was your college weight. Now, as you start to break the goals down into monthly or bi-weekly chunks, it will probably occur to you that losing ten pounds a month might be an unrealistic, not to mention, unhealthy, goal. You will have to revise this goal to a more achievable one.

With a personalized 2012 calendar, you can add encouraging messages, which you will be able to see every day.  For those days when you might find it difficult to stick to your plan, for example on a friend’s birthday, you can add an encouraging message. Put your new year’s resolution planner up where you will see it a few times a day.

So this year, join the 3% who achieve their goals by opting for one of those personalized calendars. This time next year, you’ll be looking back at this year with feelings of accomplishment, instead of disappointment.
